Rekeying is the lock service Murrieta calls for most, and it’s not close. The city’s master-planned tracts in Redhawk, Bear Creek, and Golden Era were largely built between 1995 and 2015, and most of those homes still carry the original builder-grade Kwikset and Weiser knobs and deadbolts they left the lot with. That means after a sale, a tenant turnover, or a divorce, the fix is usually a rekey, not a replacement. Glendale Lock & Key has served Murrieta since 2018, and we work on the lock you already have. Call (855) 791-2710 for a free estimate.
Why Murrieta Homes Are Different
Murrieta’s housing stock creates a locksmith workload you will not find in most Southern California cities. The 1990s and 2000s build-out produced thousands of detached homes where the entire subdivision was finished with the same hardware spec. In Redhawk and Bear Creek especially, we routinely rekey a home and discover the deadbolt, the knob, and the garage access door all share the same keyway as three neighboring houses. Builders standardized keying across phases to speed construction, and that legacy persists today.
The inland Riverside County climate compounds it. Summers run over 100 degrees with single-digit humidity, and the Santa Ana winds push fine dust into keyways. Exterior locksets oxidize and seize here faster than they do in Temecula’s cooler spots or in coastal towns. We pull cylinders for rekey and find them packed with grit; the graphite versus wet lubricant decision is not academic when the customer lives off Clinton Keith Road and their deadbolt has been baking in afternoon sun since 2003.
Add the HOA factor and you get the final Murrieta quirk. Clusters of townhomes and condos near Central Park and Los Patios often need matched key schedules for shared mail kiosks, pool gates, and amenity locks. A single-address rekey sometimes turns into a small keyed-alike project for the board, and we are set up for that.

Our Main Murrieta Services
Two services account for most of the calls we get from Murrieta outside of rekeying: car key trouble and after-hours lockouts. Here is what each looks like on the ground here.
Car Key Replacement in Murrieta
Between the 15 and the 215, Murrieta drivers lean heavily on their vehicles, and when a transponder key dies or gets lost, it rarely happens near a dealership. We program modern chip keys and transponder systems on site, which matters when you are stranded at the Promenade or locked out of your car in a driveway off Scott Road. The vehicle fleet here runs newer than average, so we see more push-button-start and FOBIK-style systems than old metal-cut keys. That is exactly what we are set up for. See Car Key Replacement in Murrieta for the full breakdown of what we handle and what it costs.

Emergency Locksmith in Murrieta
A lockout at 1 a.m. in Murrieta is a different situation than a lockout in a dense urban grid. The streets out near Los Alamos Hills or Copper Canyon are quiet, dark, and far from a 24-hour anything. We treat emergency response as a constant, not an afterthought, and we show up ready to open the hardware you have, whether that is a Schlage deadbolt from 1998 or a Baldwin entry set you bought last year. The full picture, including how quickly we can reach each part of Murrieta, is on our Emergency Locksmith in Murrieta page.

Rekey Locks in Murrieta

Rekeying in Murrieta is less about broken locks and more about control. When a house changes hands or a rental turns over, the outgoing key ring may have copies floating around with ex-tenants, cleaners, contractors, or a neighbor who once watered the plants. In these tract neighborhoods, where builder-grade Kwikset hardware is identical block after block, rekeying is the fast, sensible way to invalidate every old key without replacing good hardware. It is the service we recommend most often here, and it is the heart of our Rekey Locks work.
Lock Rekey
Signs you need it
You just bought a home in Murrieta, or a tenant moved out, and you cannot account for every key that was ever handed out.
What it costs in Murrieta
Expect $65 to $120 to rekey a standard Kwikset or Schlage cylinder, with deadbolts and knobs priced per cylinder.
How we do it
We remove the cylinder, swap the internal pins to match a new key, and have you locking and unlocking with the old hardware in under an hour.
Rekey Service
Signs you need it
You want every exterior door on your Murrieta home, plus the side garage door, working from one key instead of three.
What it costs in Murrieta
A full-house rekey across three to five cylinders typically runs $180 to $400, depending on how many locks you have.
How we do it
We rekey each cylinder to a common key, test every entry point, and label the new keys before we leave.
What Rekey Locks Costs in Murrieta
| Item | Typical range in Murrieta |
|---|---|
| Rekey per standard cylinder (Kwikset, Schlage, Weiser) | $65 – $120 |
| Full-home rekey (3 – 5 cylinders) | $180 – $400 |
| High-security cylinder rekey (Medeco, Mul-T-Lock) | $20 – $40 per cylinder, plus key costs |
Does rekeying change my existing locks?
No. Rekeying keeps your existing deadbolts and knobs in place. We change the internal pins so old keys stop working and new keys operate the same hardware. It is faster and cheaper than replacing everything.
Will a rekey fix a lock that is hard to turn?
Sometimes, but not automatically. If the cylinder is gummed up with Murrieta dust or old lubricant, we clean it during the rekey. If the lock is mechanically worn, replacement may be the better fix, and we will tell you that before doing any work.
Brands We Service in Murrieta
We carry pins, springs, and common replacement parts for Schlage, Kwikset, and Yale, and we are trained on Medeco high-security cylinders as well. That coverage means we rarely leave a Murrieta job to order parts. See our brands for the full list of hardware we service.

Two things push Murrieta pricing upward: high-security hardware like Medeco costs more per cylinder to rekey because of restricted key blanks, and homes with four or five exterior entry points simply need more cylinders done. The quote we give you on the phone is the price on the invoice, and there is no surprise call-out surcharge added when we arrive.

FAQs About Locksmith in Murrieta
Most Murrieta homes are within 30 to 45 minutes of our response routes. The exact time depends on where you are; the hills south of Copper Canyon add a few minutes compared to central Murrieta. We give you a real ETA when you call, not a vague window.
Your unit door is yours to rekey, but HOA-governed clusters in Murrieta often have rules about shared amenity locks like pool gates or mail kiosks. For any common-area lock, we ask that the HOA or property manager authorize the work before we touch it. Most HOAs are glad to update those keys when a unit changes hands.
Yes. Condos and townhomes near Central Park and Los Patios are some of our most common rekey jobs, usually when a rental turns over. We also work with owners and property managers who need matched key schedules for shared entry points and amenity locks.

What Murrieta Customers Say
"Commercial job, panic bar and a master key system for a small office. Clean install and clear documentation of which key opens what."
— Karen Park"Locked out at eleven at night with a kid asleep in the car. He was there in 25 minutes, had the door open in under two, and did not do the thing where the price goes up once he's standing in front of you."
— Marco Reyes"The old deadbolt was mounted crooked by whoever lived here before and had been sticking for years. He redrilled and reset it properly rather than just replacing the hardware."
— Neil Rao
